LEWISTON – A Lewiston man was charged with assault and robbery early Friday morning after an alleged rampage inside an Oak Street apartment that sent three people to the hospital.

Police said Alfred Kelly, 25, of 169 Bartlett St., attacked several people with a baseball bat after he was asked to leave the apartment.

Two of the victims suffered cuts and head injuries while a third was taken to the hospital with an injury to his back. All of the victims were treated and released, according to Lewiston police Lt. Michael McGonagle.

Police found Kelly at the scene. He was questioned about the attack at the police station and arrested on three counts of aggravated assault and a charge of robbery.

The incident was still being investigated Friday night. Police said Kelly produced a bat after he was confronted by several people inside the fourth floor apartment about midnight.

“He was an uninvited guest,” McGonagle said. “He was asked to leave, at which point, he pulled out a bat and start swinging at people.”

Kelly is also accused of taking property belonging to one of the victims.

When he was arrested, Kelly was also charged with violating probation.

According to court records, he has a long history of criminal conduct in the Lewiston area, including charges of assaults, threatening, cocaine trafficking, burglaries and thefts.

Kelly remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on Friday night on $50,000 bail.
