PORTLAND – Jean Pierce, 73, of Smith Lane, Saco, died late Thursday, Aug. 24, at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

She was born in Lynn, Mass., on Aug. 16, 1933, the daughter of Richard and Glenna Coderre Carrow. She attended local schools and graduated from St. James School in Haverill, Mass.

She was a homemaker for many years, moving to Maine in 1963. She was a resident of Saco for the last eight years.

Jean loved her foster grandparents program, and also loved the ocean and doing crafts.

She is survived by her companion, Lawrence Young, of Saco; two sons, Walter Pierce of Levant, and Richard Pierce of Stratham, N.H.; five daughters, Mary Sanford of Greene, Barbara Pierce of Concord, N.H., Nancy Jordon of Northwood, N.H., Glenna Considine of Penacook, N.H., and Judy Audette of Fremont, N.H.; one brother, William Carrow of Boston, Mass.; one sister, Jeannette White of Atkinson, N.H.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, with one due in February.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sidney Pierce, in 1983; and one son, Sidney Pierce Jr., in 2004.
