GREENE – Selectmen voted Monday night to keep moving forward with this year’s paving schedule.

Problems surfaced last week when R.C. Paving and Son informed Town Manager Charlie Noonan that the company’s estimate for overall tonnage was off and more money would be needed to complete the job.

Selectman Kevin Mower said he believes the company should have done more work to ensure its bid was accurate.

“I would like to stop the paving and pick it up again next year,” Mower said. “We should stop digging this hole.”

Selectman Timothy Doyle spoke with the paving company twice Monday night and moved to have the town grade the roads, saving the town approximately $3,500, and R.C said it would reduce its invoice by an additional $1,000, keeping the town under its projected paving budget this year.

The motion passed with the understanding that R.C. Paving, Noonan and Road Foreman Bruce Tufts agreed on the overall distances of the roads being paved and put the figures down in writing.

The town said paving should start again next week.
