PARIS – This year’s tax rate will creep up by 25 cents, bringing it to $16.20 per $1,000 of value.

Town Manager Sharon Jackson said the increase last year was nearly a dollar.

People should expect their tax bills in a couple of weeks, she said.

Meanwhile, selectmen voted Monday night to repair a firetruck, a cost that is estimated at just under $6,000. Funds will come from the town’s vehicle maintenance fund and will pay for ladder repairs and replacing a leaking heater core.

If the repairs cost more, selectmen will reconsider how to cover the charges.

Signs for tobacco-free zones will be placed at all public recreational areas following a new state law prohibiting smoking in public places. The signs were paid for by Healthy Oxford Hills, Jackson said.

The town is seeking volunteers to put up the signs and donate posts.
