PARIS – The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up drunken-driving enforcement this weekend.
Labor Day weekend is notorious for alcohol-related accidents, said Lt. Christopher Wainwright of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department.
“I don’t know if it’s the end of the summer or what,” Wainwright said.
The sheriff’s office has $4,500 in grant money to be used for overtime hours. Wainwright said sobriety checkpoints will be set up around the county in well-traveled areas. Other law enforcement departments around the state will also be stepping up.
The Sheriff’s Department will also be on the watch for speeders this weekend using funds from a separate grant, Wainwright said.
