FARMINGTON – The Farmington Elks Lodge plans to put on two fundraisers this month in memory of a much-loved member who died earlier this year.
Both events will raise money for scholarships, Exalted Ruler Bill Deshaies said this week.
An all-day yard sale at the printing warehouse on Route 2 in Wilton will be held on Saturday, Deshaies said. Tables are available for rent, he said. The event will run from 9 a.m until 4 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 16, the lodge will hold its fourth annual poker run. This year, it benefits the Tim Maillet scholarship fund. Maillet was killed in a motorcycle accident this spring.
“He had a million friends,” Deshaies said. “Timmy was that type of guy.” Both scholarships will go to deserving students, Deshaies said. The poker run, plus a barbecue chicken dinner and a raffle, begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 16. Poker run sign-up starts at 9.
