Dear Sun Spots: The Lewiston High School Music Boosters and the Edward Little Music Association are planning for the upcoming 16th Annual Twin Cities Marching Band Show being held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 23. It’s a collaborative event and held at Lewiston High School. The show will feature marching bands from many high schools in central and southern Maine. The show is a great family event with hundreds of students performing, exciting percussion groups and color guard ensembles – and our own Lewiston Blue Devil Marching Band and Edward Little Red Eddies Marching Band. Here’s where Sun Spots’ readers can assist: We are looking for volunteers to help for a few hours between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. during the show. Volunteers would be selling tickets and programs, helping in the concession stand and moving band equipment. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Sharon Handy by phone at 784-5595, or via e-mail at shandy@megalink.net. – Sharon Handy, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: I would like to find a hair salon in the Auburn or Rumford areas that works with Hair Club clients. Thanks a lot! – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
Sun Spots contacted the company’s corporate headquarters, but unfortunately they did not have any Maine listings. Nor were there any in New Hampshire. However, you might contact The Hair Club for Men and Women, Boston at 41 Winter St., Boston, MA, 617-451-0697. This was the closest the company could provide the column and hopefully they’ll be able to assist you.

Dear Sun Spots: To Lisa in Sabattus with a pond overrun with cattails: Try cutting them off below the water line. I have heard from several people with ponds that this really works – they “drown” and are controlled without herbicides that are toxic to aquatic life. Lisa and others can also try contacting the Maine Center for Invasive Aquatic Plants for more information about cattails and other invasives. It can be reached at 783-7733, or through e-mail at mciap@mainevlmp.org. It works with volunteers statewide to protect Maine lakes and ponds; the office is in Auburn. – Ginny Remeika, Buckfield.

Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for your expert help in the past to many of our senior citizens. I am placing another request for the seniors.

The First Auburn Senior Citizens, an affiliated organization to Auburn’s Parks & Recreation, is having a fall fair and flea market. It will take place Oct. 14, at the Armory-Hasty Community Center, Pettingill Park, Auburn. We are renting tables for the flea market for $7. Please phone Frances Robitaille at 783-3026 for rental. Thank you. – Caroline Chapman, First Auburn Senior Citizens, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: You do a great service for the readers. I have an older square playpen for the person looking for one. I can be reached at 743-0555. – No Name, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: A while back you were very helpful in finding something for me. Your column is very helpful and much appreciated.

I’m looking for a man’s bracelet, silver, with magnets – the kind that people wear for arthritis, good quality, like the ones advertised in magazines sometimes.

Also, where might I have it engraved?

In addition, does anyone know where I can purchase Puraline for diet purposes? – M.J.B., Lewiston.

Answer:
There are many places that carry these type of bracelets, however there is no way for Sun Spots to determine what is or is not good quality. You will need to decide for yourself. Perhaps other readers have some suggestions for you on this. In the meantime, consider contacting Herbal Remedies USA LLC, dba/MagnticTherapyMagnets.com, 225 N Wolcott St., Casper, WY 82601, or via e-mail at info@magnetictherapymagnets.com, or by toll-free phone at 1-866-467-6444 Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. MST.

Regarding engraving, contact Jewelry By Alfred, 770 Main St., Lewiston, ME 04240, (next to Mardens), 782-7206, or Day’s Jewelers, Shaw’s Plaza, 600 Center St., Auburn, 784-6766.
