FARMINGTON – Amanda Byrne and Danielle Glover scored two goals apiece Thursday to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 10-0 vicotry over the Maine-Machias in women’s soccer action.

The Beavers scored three times in the first 10 minutes and held a 7-0 lead at the half. Jackie Mrazik, Ashley Tetreault, Sue Fitton, Katharina Berger, Molly Bell and Erin Campbell also tallied for UMF .

Maine tabs Markwood as assistant hoop coach

ORONO – South Portland native Chris Markwood has been named an assistant coach with the University of Maine men’s basketball program.

Markwood had a standout career for the Black Bears and was captian of the 2004-05 squad. Head coach Ted Woodward made the announcement Thursday.

He transferred to Maine for his final two seasons after starting his career at Notre Dame. He saw action in 45 games for the Black Bears, averaging 6.7 points and 3.0 assists.

Markwood had a stellar career at South Portland High School, where he was named the 2000 Maine Gatorade Player of the Year. He finished his career with 1,083 points.
