I have a different opinion concerning state Rep. Nancy Smith than letter-writer Richard Davis (Sept. 3).

Davis enjoyed an attentive and hard-working Nancy Smith, but we at Oak Hill Goldens in South Monmouth saw another side.

Last year, a piece of legislation slipped through committee which enacted a $25 surcharge (tax) per puppy sold. We immediately contacted Nancy Smith and reached her answering machine, where we left a message. That happened a couple more times with no callback.

We finally reached her and expressed our concerns and displeasure with the tax levied on our business. She said she’d look into it and get back to us. We never heard again from her.

I guess it depends on who you are or what Smith considers a business to help.

I know that, come election time, I will be looking elsewhere.
