BRUNSWICK -The Bowdoin College field hockey team beat Wheaton 5-1 Sunday. This was 12th consecutive win for Bowdoin, which improved to 2-0 on the season. Wheaton College fall to 4-1.

Bowdoin’s first goal came from a nice cross feed by Hillary Hoffman to Burgess LePage with 26:50 on the clock in the first half. Five minutes later, Julia King took the ball in from half field and scored.

Wheaton got on the board with 31:17 remaining in the second half with a reverse sweep shot to the bottom right corner from Alisa Ardito. Bowdoin’s King answered back a minute later with a goal resulting from a scrambled cross.

Women’s soccer

Bowdoin 0, Babson 0

BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin and Babson colleges fought hard, but had to settle for a 0-0 tie after two overtimes Sunday.

Babson started the first half strong with 15 shots, with 10 of its 14 field players taking shots, compared to Bowdoin’s seven. Bowdoin picked up the pace in the second half and controlled the offense, adding eight shots with Babson taking four.

Katherine Popoff had 15 saves for Bowdoin, while Kelly Thomas made 5.

Coast Guard 1, USM 0

GORHAM – Freshman Katie Kurek scored the only goal and sophomore goalkeeper Trish Ohle made four saves to give the U. S. Coast Guard Academy Bears a 1-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women’s soccer match Sunday afternoon.

The win improved the Bears’ overall record to 2-1-0. The Huskies dropped their second straight match to fall to 1-4-0.

In the 12th minute, Kurek touched a pass beyond on-rushing USM sophomore goalkeeper Mindy Morneault, pursued the ball to the end line and cut a bad angle shot just inside the far post for her second goal of the season.
