HARTFORD – John Cleveland informed selectmen Thursday night that bids to build a domed 2,500- and 3,500-cubic-yard sand and salt shed are being sought.
The bids will be due at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Town Office, and selectmen will open the m at 7. There will be a special board meeting Thursday, Sept. 28, to discuss the estimates.
Animal Control Officer Rick Houghton said rabies is showing up in several areas, and he urged the public to be very careful if they encounter animals during the day that are normally nocturnal. He said no domestic animals in the immediate area have contracted rabies.
Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley said he has numerous code violations, and one has been referred to the state Department of Environmental Protection because it concerns pollution going into Bear Pond.
Plumley is concerned about the Dakin subdivision off Route 219, which he says has several possible violations. He mentioned one lot with four travel trailers on it, and an illegal outhouse. He is taking Selectman Lee Holman to look at the situation.
Plumley also wanted to have the board clarify a procedure where people apply for a permit. He said the applicant should pick up the permit at the town office and have him go to the site. If the site cannot be approved for the building, the applicant still must pay the cost of the permit. The board agreed to this procedure.
Holman announced that the Hartford Heritage Society will be hosting a public supper to benefit the J and O Irish Store Museum at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Hartford Town Hall. The cost will be $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12.
And, there will be a special selectmen’s meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, to conduct interviews for the position of transfer station attendant and chose a candidate for the position.
