LIVERMORE – Residents in Livermore will be voting at the Town Office in November, and not at the Brettuns Community Building.
Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub told selectpeople on Monday night that a survey compiled by the state has determined the Brettuns building to not be in compliance with handicap standards.
“The ramps do not have adequate railings, the doors into the building are too narrow, the restrooms are not handicap-accessible and there is no Internet access,” Schaub said.
Solutions were discussed, including buying new collapsible voting booths that cost from $600 to $800, or buying used ones at a lower cost.
“The present voting booths will not fit on any of the walls in this room,” Schaub said.
In other business, the board reviewed the highway capital improvement report and the funds come up short. Scheduled projects include: Strickland Ferry, River, Goding and Israelson roads.
An unexpected expense is the Fish Meadow Road. The estimate to fix this road is $7,540. Selectman Tom Berry said that if the town helped the contractors by using its own trucks, some of the costs could be “shaved.” He said that shimming on Norlands Road may have to be put off.
Selectman Wayne Timberlake said, “The Norlands Road really needs it.” Berry agreed, but said, “We can’t fix them all.”
There are two openings on the Planning Board as Jerry Williams and Harlan Green are both resigning. Green is moving to Skowhegan and Williams will be spending more time in Florida.
Jean Tardif is resigning from the SAD 36 board because she will be attending nursing school. She has served on the board for almost 12 years.
SAD 36 Chairman Ashley O’Brien invites any interested Livermore resident to attend a boardmanship workshop on Oct. 4 held by the Board Renewal Committee. At the workshop, the role of the contemporary school board member will be discussed. Information can also be obtained at the Town Office.
The Town Office will be closed Sept. 19 to install a new accounting system. Trio Software Corp. will be at the office on Wednesday for hands-on training for town employees. Tax bills will be mailed on Thursday.
