SPRING HILL, Fla. – Daniel Gilbert Jones, 58, died in an accident while walking his dog near his Florida home on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
He was born in Lewiston on July 10, 1948, the son of Antoine and Noella Philippon Jones. He was educated in the Lewiston school system, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1966. He continued his education at the University of Maine at Augusta, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree and certification as a registered nurse.
Dan served in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Upon returning home, he continued his service in the Maine Air National Guard retiring with the rank of major. In his civilian life, he worked for more than three decades as a registered nurse at the Togus Veterans’ Hospital in Augusta.
In 2001, he moved to New Port Richey, Fla., and had recently settled into a new home in Spring Hill, Fla. In early 2006, he married Inna Jones from the Ukraine. He enjoyed reading books, remodeling his house, automotive repair and landscaping.
He is survived by his wife, Inna Jones; three children, Andrea Girimonte of Tampa, Fla., Jeffrey Jones of Casco and Erika Reay of China; four grandchildren; and three siblings, Robert Jones of Brunswick, Helen Grace of Lisbon Falls and Claire Behrends of Eldridge, Iowa. Funeral arrangements will be determined at a later date.
