A&E plans quickie ‘Dog’ arrest special
Duane Chapman is out on bail and A&E has wasting no time scheduling a “Dog: The Bounty Hunter” special covering the bounty hunter’s recent arrest.
Tonight at 9 p.m., A&E will air “Dog: The Family Speaks,” an hourlong special that the cable network says will feature “exclusive interviews offering a first hand account of the events leading to Dog, Leland and Tim’s dramatic arrest stemming from their heroic capture of convicted rapist Andrew Luster in Mexico more than three years ago.”
Duane Chapman, son Leland Chapman and unrelated fellow bounty hunter Tim Chapman were arrested on kidnapping charges last Thursday morning in Hawaii.
He posted $300,000 bail over the weekend, but he’s still awaiting extradition to Mexico.
‘CSI: Miami’ catches real floater
In the latest case of reality mirroring fiction, “CSI: Miami” became the second CBS procedural to experience a genuine corpse in last than a week.
According to the Miami Herald, a dead body washed up next to the second unit crew of CBS’ popular drama on Friday. The “floater” made its cameo appearance just three days after a mummified body was found in Los Angeles building where “CSI: New York” was filming. If this keeps up, the crew of original-flavor “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” is going to get jealous in a hurry.
“CSI: Miami” was using Miami’s Bicentennial Park as a helicopter staging ground. A homeless man told one of the show’s security guards (a real-life Miami cop) about the corpse, which was face-down at the water’s edge.
As of Friday, the body’s identity had not been revealed to the press, nor had a cause of death.
“Unfortunately, it’s not unusual during certain times of the year that people who have fallen in the bay, either homeless or people who were asleep or in some cases boaters who had a mishap, fall into the bay and turn up days later,” Miami Detective Delrish Moss tells the Herald.
The paper is quick to note that while “CSI: Miami” star David Caruso was not on set, his stunt double was.
“CSI: Miami” just happened to be premiering on Monday night.
LL COOL J IS “THE MAN’
“CSI” creator Anthony Zuiker is branching out from the three-headed crime franchise with a new pilot for CBS.
Zuiker is writing a pilot called “The Man” for CBS that will star rapper-actor LL Cool J as an undercover cop who divides his time between work and looking after three adopted kids, each of whom has some heavy baggage. The project has a tentative pilot commitment from the network and sister studio CBS Paramount Network TV.
The show derives its title from the lead character’s cover, an all-purpose fixer who can get anything you want. “He’s the only honest man on the wrong side of the law,” Zuiker tells The Hollywood Reporter.
LL Cool J signed a talent deal with CBS earlier this year, and the network’s head of entertainment, Nina Tassler, asked Zuiker if he’d be interested in developing a project for the actor. Zuiker, who says he’s a long-time fan, quickly came up with the concept for “The Man,” and he describes working with LL as a “childhood dream come true.”
“The Man” will be the first show Zuiker has developed since launching the “CSI” franchise, which has helped turn CBS into the most-watched network on TV. The original series begins its seventh season this week, while “CSI: Miami” starts its fifth and “CSI: NY” its third.
LL Cool J (born James Todd Smith) most recently appeared onscreen in “The Last Holiday.” Other recent acting credits include “S.W.A.T.,” “Mindhunters” and a guest appearance on “House.” His most recent album, “Todd Smith,” was released earlier this year.
