I was very disappointed to see the most recent television ad run by the Chandler Woodcock campaign distorting the truth about our state’s financial position. After seeing it, I was not surprised that responsible television stations pulled it off the air almost immediately.

Maine has a long and proud tradition of producing very important political figures, spanning our nation’s history. For such a small state, it is amazing that we have sent a vice president, a secretary of state, a secretary of defense, and a Senate majority leader to Washington, D.C.

Names such as Hamlin, Muskie, Cohen, Mitchell, Chase-Smith, and our current leaders, Snowe, Collins, Allen, Michaud and Baldacci are all politicians with significant experience, impeccable reputations, and respect from their peers, regardless of party.

I hope Maine will continue to uphold this tradition of electing leaders who are not only tremendous champions for the state of Maine, but respected on the world stage.

Distorting the truth and mudslinging is beneath the tradition and important place in history that Maine’s politicians have so rightly earned. I expect my leaders to be world-class, not bush-league.
