Bike safety day
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Optimist Club is sponsoring its 10th annual bike safety day from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Androscoggin Bank Colisee parking lot across from Longley School.
Free bicycle helmets will be provided to the first 50 participants who do not have a helmet. Free bicycles will be awarded.
There will be a bike inspection station, bike shells course, skateboard demonstrations, prizes and an eye safety station.

VFW meeting
LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at noon Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members are encouraged to attend.
The agenda will include the Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy contests, Veteran’s Day and the Lewiston-Auburn Veterans Council dedication on Sept. 30. Eligible veterans are invited to join the VFW.
Fellowship brunch
AUBURN – The Young at Heart Fellowship will start their season with a brunch at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Court Street Baptist Church. A business meeting will be held with Co-presidents Mary and Winston Greaton presiding.
The devotions will be led by Lisa Bradford, chaplain at the Hospice House. A program will follow, given by Attorney Kathleen Kienitz, who will speak on long-term care.
Members are reminded to bring to the brunch the items they signed up for at the last meeting and something to put into the door prize bag. All senior citizens are invited.
Legion meeting
LISBON – Coombs Mountfort Post, American Legion, and Unit 158 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the post home on Webster Street. The post has started the Friday night dinners at 5 p.m. Members and guests are invited.
Scout night
POLAND – Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council will hold a parent information and registration meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Poland Community School. Girl Scout activities and volunteer options available for adults will be discussed.
Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council provides programs for girls ages 5 to 17 in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Somerset and York counties.
Registration fee is $10, payable by check. Financial assistance is available.

Church program
AUBURN – The public is invited to the second annual Men’s and Women’s Day Program at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ (log church), Route 4, 2488 Turner Road.
Host pastor will be Elder Albert Jackson Sr.; chairman, the Rev. George Washington, assisted by Elder Charles Warren Sr. and Pastor Lester Libby. Speaker will be Elder Charles Warren Sr. There will be gospel singing, fellowship and preaching. For more information, contact 784-1031.
Seniors trips
LEWISTON – Lewiston Senior Citizens will hold several trips this fall.
A trip to the Balsams in Dixville Notch, N.H., will take place Tuesday, Oct. 3, for a grand buffet at the resort in the White Mountains. Cost is $69.
A Spirit of Boston cruise and luncheon buffet will be held Saturday, Oct. 14. Lunch will consist of a lobster buffet. The trip includes a trip to Fuddruckers, Jelly Beantown, Trapeze School, Liquid Fireworks Display and Richardson’s Ice Cream. Cost is $71.
Branson to Boston will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7. This is a change of date. The trip will feature the Main Street Music Hall. The show consists of current and classic country, gospel and patriotic songs as well as comedy. Cost is $71.
