BOSTON – The University of Maine men’s hockey team was picked third overall in the Hockey East preseason poll, released Tuesday.
Maine received 75 votes, to trail Boston College (89) and Boston University (78). The Eagles received eight first-place votes, while the Black Bears had two.
Following Maine was New Hampshire (67), Vermont (57), Providence (52), Massachusetts (37), Northeastern (35), UMass-Lowell (32) and Merrimack (18).
The Black Bears begin the 2006-07 campaign on Oct. 6 against Minnesota in the Hall of Fame game.

UMF names 5 to Athletics HOF
FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington will induct five alumni athletes into the Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 14. The induction ceremonies will take place in the North Dinig Hall of the Olsen Student Center on South Street in Farmington. A social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m.
This year’s inductees are: Kristi Gallop Emery of Detroit, ME; Kristi Hardy-Gilson of Lincolnville, ME; Donna Storey Kane of Cumberland; Mike Nelson of Bath and Vincent Sculco of Wynantskill, N.Y.
