GLENBURN (AP) – A 16-year-old Glenburn boy suspected of stealing eight motor vehicles and a gun was nabbed in his hometown Wednesday afternoon after a police search that prompted two school closings.

Andru Smart had been the subject of an extensive ground and air search on Tuesday in Glenburn and had been on the run for a week, Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

On Wednesday, a Glenburn elementary school near the search area was closed, as was Orono High School, where Smart is a student.

Smart was arrested Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area of Glenburn.
