NORWAY – Keith D. “Stubby” Upton, 80, of Norway, died Saturday, Sept. 30, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway with his loving family by his side.
Keith was born in Norway on July 23, 1926, to Wayland and Adelaide (French) Upton.
He had worked as a logger, and owned pulp trucks in the early 50s. He worked for Sanborn’s Motor Express as a trailer mechanic, A.C. Lawrence leather company in South Paris, and for the Norway Highway Department.
After his retirement from logging he was a guide at the Square Tail Fishing Lodge in Lac Letrollis in northern Quebec for over ten years. During this time, he handed down the skills of his guiding profession to his children and grandchildren, to carry on his skills as a guide.
He enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, trapping, and cooking chickens in his backyard for get togethers with family and his neighbors.
He had faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II, earning the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9787 in South Paris, and a member of American Legion Post 82 in Norway for over 21 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Folley of South Paris; a son, Donald M. Upton, and wife, Ruth, of Norway; a sister, Glenice Boyd of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Angie Upton, also of Massachusetts; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; a brother, Melvin, who was killed in action in France during World War II; and another brother, Wilson Upton, and his wife, Genevieve.
