WINTHROP – Roland L. Gay Jr., 57, of Turkey Lane, died Thursday, Oct. 5, at his home.
He was born in Augusta on March 8, 1949, the son of Roland and Muriel (McLean) Gay. Roland attended Cony High School, where he played basketball, baseball and track.
After high school, Roland served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He returned to work at Edwards Mill, Libby Mills and Bates Mill doing carpentry work.
He was currently employed as a pipe fitter at Bath Iron Works, where he had worked for more than 20 years.
Roland was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, bow hunting, snowmobiling and spending time at their family camp. Most of all, Roland enjoyed being with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was a member of the Alfred Maxwell American Legion Post 40, Winthrop.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wanda L. Gay, of Winthrop; a son, Roland L. Gay III and his wife, Joann, of Hartland, Mich.; a daughter, Angie Michaud and her husband, Gary, of Turner; his mother, Muriel Fortin of Winthrop; four sisters, Carolyn Gile and her husband, Herman, of Sidney, Gail Williams and her husband, Donald, of Winthrop, Patricia Fry and her husband, Paul, of Duncannon, Pa., and Kathy Getchell of Colorado; four grandchildren, Julia and Joseph Gay, and Steven and Collin Michaud; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
