LEWISTON – To address the needs of a growing organization, the YWCA of Central Maine has added the position of community services manager. Wendy Russell, former director of child care services, has accepted the position. In addition to grant writing, the position will take responsibility for community contacts and volunteer management.

Russell has worked at the YWCA of Central Maine for five years as director of child care services. Under her direction, the program expanded to include a pre-kindergarten program and an infant/toddler program. Over the past three years, the summer camp, also under her direction, doubled in size, making the YWCA an important resource for childrens’ summer activities in an urban setting.

Under Russell’s new responsibilities and beginning later in the fall will be Zoey’s Room, a Web-based program for adolescent girls to learn about careers in the fields of science and technology.

The new director of child care services is Pamela Murphy. With a focus on curriculum and nutrition, Murphy has revamped the after school program that is housed at Montello School.

A candidate for her master’s degree in leadership studies at University of Southern Maine, Lewiston-Auburn College, Murphy is a resident of Lewiston where she lives with her husband and children.

The YWCA has hired Charles Bunyea as the after school program coordinator. Bunyea assisted with the summer camp program this past year as a counselor and has taken on the school year responsibilities for overseeing the YWCA programming at Montello School.

Bunyea is a student pursuing his bachelor of arts degree in leadership and organizational studies at the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College. He lives in Mechanic Falls with his wife and daughter.
