LEWISTON – George and Doris Fournier of Lewiston celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently at a gathering at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Debra Fournier, at their home in Buxton.

The couple received a surprise seven-day cruise to the Bahamas and Virgin Islands from their children, and a lobster luncheon was held this summer.

Mr. Fournier and the former Doris Carignan were married on June 9, 1956, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston. Their children are Raymond and wife, Mila, Daniel and wife, Debra, Susan and husband, Douglas Collins, Joline and husband, Raymond Vachon, James Fournier, and Robert and wife, Cindy. Their grandchildren are Raymond Jr., Amanda Fournier, John and Dan Collins, Gerard Vachon, Shantel Fournier, Tori and Naomi Fournier, and Megan, Richard and Morgan Webber.

Mrs. Fournier is a graduate of Lewiston High School, and among the places she was employed were at the Red Cross and the Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Fournier attended Lewiston schools and was employed for Local 545 (Boston #17) sheet metal mechanic, primarily in the New England states and New York. He was also an officer for Local 545, Sheet Metal Union.

They have been members of the Pine Tree Gypsies for many years.

Original wedding attendants present were Elizabeth Fournier, Theresa and Roger Fournier, and Real Bureau, the original best man, who gave the toast at the luncheon.

Representing the couple’s children, son Ray, had the couple renew the wedding promises.
