SABATTUS – The Team Xtreme Karate Studio will host a “Walk-For-Hunger” to raise funds to benefit Good Shepherd Food-Bank at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. The walk will begin at the Xtreme Studios of Self-Defense, 136 Sabattus St. Participants will have an ice cream party at the studio after the walk.
Team Xtreme is a national, nonprofit organization with a mission to develop individual talents of martial arts students by improving self-image through the building of self-confidence. They encourage the fundamentals of sportsmanship, self-discipline, personal responsibility and the setting of high standards and teach tools of achievement. Individual and shared team goals have included outreaches in the community.
Individuals will seek sponsors to help raise funds for the food bank. Every dollar donated can provide $12.50 in food to hungry people. Good Shepherd Food-Bank currently provides food to more than 550 nonprofit agencies throughout the state.
Partner agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless and abuse shelters, group and foster homes, recovery centers, programs for the elderly and children. Each month, it is estimated that more than 70,000 people are helped through the network of agencies.
