BELFAST (AP) – An Albion man who left his toddlers to fend for themselves in the woods in the middle of winter after he fled from police with the children’s mother was sentenced Thursday to 2 years in prison.

Sean Anderson and Kristie Lee Anderson were allegedly on a cocaine binge when they went into the woods last January with the toddlers – 1and 3 years old.

After a massive search, the toddlers were found huddled together a mile from where their mother was found. One was wearing a jacket over her pajamas, but the other jacket was discarded. Neither was wearing shoes.

Sean Anderson, who was sentenced in Waldo County Superior Court, pleaded guilty to burglary, theft and endangering the welfare of his children. His wife is in a treatment program. Their children are staying with a grandmother.

The Andersons fled after they learned that they were wanted by police for two burglaries. They hid their car on a dirt road and headed into the woods with their children, thinking police were hot on their trail.

They thought they heard police dogs but they actually heard were dogs barking outside a nearby home, police said.
