AUBURN – Marjorie and Vicky of Auburn Public Library’s Teenior knitting group are meeting every Thursday to exchange knitting techniques on sock, sweater and quilt patterns. They encourage seniors and teens to experience the craft of knitting and exchanging ideas.
Marjorie describes herself as a “binge” knitter. After she completes several projects in a row, she gives herself a break. It isn’t long before she’s in search of a new pattern. One file of free patterns Marjorie loves to peruse can be found in the knitting section of Grand City’s store in Brunswick, which she says also has a selection of yarns.
There are books at the library for those who are looking for a pattern. They include “150 Weekend Crochet Projects” by Laura Scott, “25 Gorgeous Sweaters for the Brand-New Knitter” by Catherine Ham, and two books by Vogue’s Knitting On the Go! series, “Socks” and “Socks Two” by Sixth and Spring Books.
Marjorie and Vicky hope is to welcome new knitters of all ages, including teens who are homeschoolers, Girl Scout troops and anyone who may have initially attended the group in July as well as invite those who crochet to join them each Thursday through Dec. 7. The session will continue through spring if there is enough interest.
The group will meet on the following dates: Oct. 19 and Nov. 2 and 16 at 10 a.m. and Oct. 26, Nov. 9 and 30 at 6 p.m.
