AMARILLO, Texas (AP) – A violinist from New York was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and indecency involving a 16-year-old girl after arranging to meet her at a West Texas hotel, police said Tuesday.
Timothy Stephen Baker, 54, was arrested Monday at the hotel wearing a fake mustache, a baseball cap and sunglasses, said Amarillo Police Sgt. Randy TenBrink said.
“Our belief is he came here specifically to meet with this girl,” TenBrink said. “There was no other reason for him to be here, to our knowledge.”
Baker is the founding member of the Amadeus Trio, an ensemble managed in Old Greenwich, Conn., that also includes a pianist and a cellist. A voice message left with the Darlington Management Group, which handles the group, was not immediately returned.
Police said he met the girl at an Austin music camp this past summer and continually tried to contact her over the objections of her parents and detectives, whom the parents had notified. Baker used several methods to contact her, including unsuspecting third parties, TenBrink said.
Baker was named in three arrest warrants, two for sexual assault of a child and one for indecency with a child, TenBrink said.
He remained in the Randall County Jail on Tuesday awaiting arraignment. It was not immediately known if Baker had an attorney.
