WILTON – A memorial donation was given to the Wilton Free Public Library recently, honoring Sue Kelley, a life skills and computer instructor for Adult Basic Education. She died of cancer in the summer.
Co-workers from the Literacy Volunteers of Franklin County made the donation, making it possible to add the following picture books to the children’s room collection: “A Story for Bear” by Dennis Haseley, “White is for Blueberry” by George Shannon, “How Chipmunk Got His Stripes” by Joseph Bruchac and “Buddy Unchained” by Daisy Bix.
Carolyn Balsam, a Literacy Volunteers board member, recommended the purchase of the book “A Story for Bear,” which highlights literacy, because Kelley was especially fond of it.
Dottie Richard, a student of Kelley’s for many years and a patron of the library, said, “She wasn’t just a tutor, she became a very good friend. Sue was a remarkable lady with a terrific smile. She would help whenever I needed help.” Dottie noted that Kelley would often take her out for lunch or bring her to plays and clogging programs.
