LEWISTON – Shaylainia Smart, a 26-year-old woman seriously injured in a car accident Saturday afternoon, remained in critical condition at Central Maine Medical Center Sunday night.
Smart’s 7-year-old son, also injured in the wreck, was transferred to Maine Medical Center Saturday night, according to Lisbon police Sgt. Patrick Gagnon.
“I’ve been told that his condition has stabilized,” said Gagnon, who refused to release the boy’s name.
Also in the car at the time of the crash was Smart’s 5-year-old son, who escaped with only minor abrasions. Gagnon said the younger boy, whose name was also unavailable, was treated Saturday night and released into the care of a family member.
Smart and her two sons were injured when the Plymouth sedan she was driving south on Main Street in Lisbon Falls veered off of the road and smashed into a large pine tree.
Police were unsure of what caused Smart to lose control of her car. Maine State Police will be seeking answers early this week when they begin reconstruction of the accident, Gagnon said.
