Why are you seeking a term as a city councilor?
“I’ve been fairly displeased with some of the decision-making and I think I can do better. I’m not happy with the questions being asked before they’re making their decisions.
“I don’t necessarily think all of the information is being gathered and considered. Definitely, the community doesn’t think their voices are being heard. Most of the citizens feel like they’ve been disenfranchised and don’t have a say in the government. I would like to help facilitate the people in feeling like they have a voice and that the people they elect are actually listening to them and actually trying to be responsive to their needs and concerns.”
What can you do to provide relief for Auburn property taxpayers?
“Well, if TABOR doesn’t pass, I’d consider some amendment like what was instituted in Lewiston. That was, you couldn’t institute any budget growth over a certain percentage that wouldn’t be reasonable among a vote of the people. That seems to have worked and not limited Lewiston’s growth too much.”
Please rate the incumbent (Robert Hayes). What could Mr. Hayes have done to make things smoother for the city, the citizens or the City Council?
“I think most people believed Bob to be a fiscal conservative, (but) I feel his votes didn’t show him to be a fiscal conservative. And they were hoping for a bit more tightness toward spending from him. He himself stated that he is more of a listener and I see him doing a lot of listening. And I wish he actually would have probably asked a few more poignant questions and probing on some of the issues.
