Toy Library elects

LEWISTON – The Toy Library has elected new executive officers and has moved to a new location, New Life Community Center, 134 College St.

Officers are Angela Saltis, president; Cindy Griffin, clerk; Heidi Burgess, treasurer; Terry Baillargeon, vice president.

The library’s mission is to promote self-esteem through learning experiences and positive play for children and their families.

Program goals include developing a toy lending program for young children to promote learning; providing a safe, fun play space and learning environment for young children; providing a gathering space for parents and offering written resources for parents to borrow.

The library hopes to serve families throughout Androscoggin County and nearby communities; to provide resources and educational toys for special-needs children and their families; and to encourage participation from teen parents, single parents, low income parents and child care providers.

The Toy Library’s new area includes a gym, stage, multiple play areas puppets and plans to add children’s art, music and gymnastics and jump stations to their activities. With its opening in October, it plans to be fully operational by January.

The library is asking for volunteers and program directors. Those who are interested or want more information should call 782-1112.
