KEENE, N.H. (AP) – Three people were hurt when an ambulance flipped on its side after a witness said it swerved to avoid a car on Route 10 on Thursday.

There was no word on whether it had been carrying any patients.

The Keene Sentinel quotes a witness as saying the ambulance was passing two cars in the middle lane of the three-lane road around 11 a.m., when a car driven by an older man pulled into the center lane. The ambulance swerved, skidded, then tipped over.

After the crash, Michael L. Korpi, owner of the nearby Keene Chrysler, said he and others from the dealership ran over to help.

Korpi said the ambulance driver appeared dazed at first, but climbed out of the ambulance through a window, ran across the top of the ambulance and went to assist the driver of the pickup truck.

“I think it was just his adrenaline; both those guys were shaking,” Korpi said of the ambulance workers.
