1. As a lifelong resident of Western Maine, I have been fortunate to be able to make a good life and raise a wonderful family. I want the same opportunities for my children and your children. If elected, I hope I can help make this possible.

2. My top priority is a state budget with only modest growth that focuses on the basics: repairing and improving our roads and other existing infrastructure, and reducing our crushing debt to our hospitals and state pension systems. We need to fix what we have before creating new obligations.

3. I support the Taxpayer Bill of Rights. It will slow the growth of government spending at all levels and allow for the gradual reduction of our tax burden, which has been a drag on Maine’s economy and causes hardship for too many. The alternative is business as usual, which is unsustainable.

4. This election is about Maine’s economy, not social issues. I supported Question 1, which to me dealt with discrimination and nothing more. I would oppose any change to our laws on marriage. I believe in a woman’s right to choose and do not believe changes are needed in our laws on abortion.

5. Dirigo Health has failed in its mission of covering the uninsured and we need to move on. We should follow the lead of states that have reduced the guaranteed issue and community rating requirements to allow affordable coverage for the young and healthy, and create a state supported high risk pool to protect those with greater needs.
