1. Every day I wake up and feel Maine is not what it could be. Many daily activities are affected by the shortcomings in government -both local and state. In particular, the property tax situation this year in Auburn is an example. This needs to be fixed at the state level.

2. My top priority is tax reform, with special emphasis on property tax. The laws that govern how property tax is assessed put undo hardship and burden on taxpayers. Reasonable changes in current law could ease that affect in future revaluations. Welfare reform is another issue that could generate missing forms of revenue.

3. I am completely comfortable with supporting TABOR. My own research has shown me that Maine’s version has provisions built in that would address the shortcomings Colorado experienced. As chairman of Auburn Citizens’ budget committee, I experienced firsthand the excessive spending in city government. TABOR would control that.

4. I believe that social issues play a very small part in this election. The present anti-discrimination laws suffice without further redundant protections. If families, churches, and community did their part, abortion would not be a government issue. Abortion is a symptom of a much greater ill: breakdown in the family.

5. Dirigo Health has failed and should be shut down. A waste of taxpayers money. There is not a competitive enough environment in health care to pull this off, resulting in the same high cost that is to be avoided. Offer incentives to other insurance providers to do business in Maine, providing competition with greater oversight on spending.
