1. First and foremost, I would like my children to have the opportunity to stay and be successful in Maine. The current economic outlook for Maine is not positive and does not foster a positive environment for business or the entrepreneurial spirit that is Maine.
2. Fiscal responsibility, which includes welfare reform. I have submitted a five-point plan to reform welfare. Spending reform; prioritize spending to include the necessary programs for the Maine citizens who need it most.
3. I support the Taxpayer Bill of Rights. Although many local town, municipal governments are doing a great job by being fiscally responsible, the Legislature and some local officials do not take taxpayers’ ability to pay into account. We have “squeaky wheel government” and fulfill wants instead of needs. No priorities; everything’s a crisis.
4. I do not think these issues play a role in the election. I am pro-life and believe marriage is between one man, one woman. Discrimination in any form is immoral and unacceptable!
5. Dirigo has fallen short of its intended purpose to insure “130,000 uninsured Maine people.” The numbers vary, but for the $52 million or so price tag to insure 8,000 to 11,000 people is not getting the bang for the buck. We should establish Dirigo as a high risk pool for the truly uninsurable, eliminate the guaranteed issuance policy and community ratings, and eliminate laws denying people to shop competitively from outside of Maine.
