OXFORD – Oxford Hills School District officials are pondering what to do with Mildred Fox Elementary School in Paris once students and staff move to the new school on High Street.

Possible options include creating a new central office for the district and housing alternative education programs or child development programs, Superintendent Mark Eastman told a committee Oct. 17.

“It’s a complex issue,” said Fox Re-Use Committee Chairman Ronald Kugell at Tuesday’s Board of Directors’ meeting.

Kugell said the committee is weighing the cost of renovating the school with the costs of either leasing another building or building one for central offices.

A big issue is meeting handicap accessibility standards, he said.

There are also other educational uses for the building, that may be used in conjunction with other school systems, he said.

The Fox school holds 191 students in grades kindergarten through 3. Students enrolled there will move to a new kindergarten through 6 grade facility in February.

The school, located at Market Square, is a two-story brick building. According to the school’s Web site, it has been a school since the 1800s when the Oxford Normal Institute was founded.
