RUMFORD – Selectmen set a series of presentations for the next three regular board meetings to learn about services provided by the police, fire and public works departments.
Board Chairman Jim Rinaldo said on Friday that the presentations will help the board learn whether townspeople are satisfied with the services they receive for their tax dollars, or whether they want some changes.
Once all reports are presented, he said one or more workshops or public informational meetings will be held after the first of the new year to gather input from the public. The project will be used as part of the municipal budget development for fiscal year 2007-08.
He said the number of employees and level of services in the three departments have remained about the same through the decades while the town’s population has declined from a peak of about 10,000 to 6,400 now.
“What do the people want?” he asked.
Each department operates on a budget of about $1 million annually. He wonders if most people are happy with what they receive.
Fire Chief John Woulfe will make the first presentation on Nov. 16. He will be followed by Police Chief Stacy Carter on Dec. 7, then public works Director Andy Russell, on Dec. 21.
