AUBURN – A former Kohl’s employee accused of writing a note and claiming there was a bomb inside the store last month was indicted this week on a charge of terrorizing.
Stephanie Ann Baril, 24, of 30 Blake St., Lewiston, is charged with making a threat that prompted customers and employees to evacuate the store on Oct. 21. The charge is a felony.
Police said that the note warning of a bomb in the building was handwritten by Baril. Around 6:45 p.m., she brought the false threat to the attention of a supervisor, and the store was cleared and searched.
A security team at Kohl’s became suspicious of Baril when she started acting strangely around the time the threat was made, police said. Auburn police investigators questioned her and said Baril admitted to writing the note.
According to the indictment, she is charged with terrorizing because she “did communicate to Kohl’s employees a threat to commit or to cause to be committed a crime of violence dangerous to human life, murder …”
Baril remained at the Androscoggin County Jail on Tuesday.
