More than 100 companies have been affected by Perrigo Co.’s recall of acetaminophen, including some top retailers in Maine.

On the FDA’s list: BJ’s Wholesale, CVS, Save-A-Lot and Wal-Mart. Hannaford and Shaw’s supermarkets were also affected by the recall and have pulled their generic acetaminophen supplies from store shelves.

The 500 mg strength medication has been recalled because it may have been contaminated with metal.

Consumers who believe they have a batch of contaminated medication should call Perrigo’s Consumer Affairs Department at 1-877-546-0454 for further instructions.

Consumers who have experienced an adverse reaction to the medication should also call Perrigo or the FDA at 800-332-1088.
