AUGUSTA – The Maine Education Association has announced the availability of the Clyde Russell Scholarship applications for 2007. The scholarships were established for Maine residents through a trust created by the late Audrey Lewis, MEA president in 1958, in memory of Clyde Russell, who served as MEA executive director from 1945 to 1966.

Each year scholarships may be awarded in each of four categories: graduating high school seniors; graduating high school seniors who will attend a Maine community college; full- or part-time college or graduate students; and junior, senior or graduate students in a teacher preparation program.

The awards for the graduating high school seniors who will attend a Maine community college will not exceed $2,500 each.

Application forms have been sent to all financial aid officers in institutions of higher education in Maine and to all high school guidance offices in the state. All four application types have been sent to local libraries and town offices.

Application forms may also be obtained by writing to the Clyde Russell Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2457, Augusta, ME 04338, or by going to www.clyderussellscholarshipfund.org. Applications may be downloaded between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31. When requesting a form in writing, note which type of scholarship form is being requested.

Applicants must be Maine residents. The deadline for completed applications is Feb. 1, 2007.
