SEARSPORT (AP) – A Searsport man was charged Tuesday with manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of his brother, police said.

Maine State Police detectives charged Michael Nickerson, 49, in the death of 44-year-old Charles Nickerson, who died Sunday of multiple stab wounds after a confrontation at the house they shared.

The arrest warrant was drawn up after consultation with the attorney general’s office, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

Nickerson was taken to the Waldo County Jail and was expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday.

Clyde Nickerson, a third brother who lives next door, told the Bangor Daily News that he believed the stabbing was the culmination of an ongoing feud between the two men over housekeeping duties in their small dwelling.
