On the heels of a hugely successful finale for the current season of “Dancing with the Stars,” ABC is considering bringing the show back for another run in the spring.

The fourth edition of the show will likely premiere in March, ABC’s Jeff Bader told attendees at an International Radio & Television Society event in New York Wednesday. When “Dancing” does come back, though, it may be in a different time period than the 8 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday spots it occupied with great success this fall.

That’s because the Tuesday spot would end up competing against Fox’s unscripted heavyweight, “American Idol,” which Bader calls a “tsunami.” Because of that, he says ABC will likely move “Dancing” to other nights of the week.

The final episodes of “Dancing with the Stars” this week rang up the biggest audiences for any shows in the 2006-07 season thus far. Tuesday’s last performance show drew 26.8 million viewers, and the crowning of Emmitt Smith as the season’s winner on Wednesday beat that, with 27.2 million people tuning in.

Also at the gathering, NBC’s head of scheduling, Mitch Metcalf, says his network will likely find a new home for its first-year drama “Friday Night Lights,” which earlier this week received a full-season order. The series has found a loyal and relatively young, if small, audience on Tuesday nights, and NBC wants to nurture the show by keeping it out of the way of “Idol” come January.

Metcalf says there’s a chance that another recently picked up show, “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” will move as well. NBC is expected to announce its midseason plans in the near future.

Perry surfs to HBO’s ‘Cincinnati’

Former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Luke Perry is joining the cast of another Southern California-set show, though this one is probably a little darker than that past role.

Perry, who most recently starred in NBC’s “Windfall,” will be a series regular on HBO’s “John From Cincinnati,” the latest project from “Deadwood” creator David Milch. He became a full-time cast member after guest-starring in the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“John From Cincinnati” takes place in the surfing culture of Imperial Beach, Calif., south of San Diego, and focuses on a prominent but messed-up family. The cast also includes Bruce Greenwood, Rebecca De Mornay, Ed O’Neill, Luis Guzman and Austin Nichols, who plays the title character.

Milch and author Kem Nunn co-wrote the pilot, which began filming last month. The series is scheduled to premiere next summer.

Perry is best known for playing Dylan McKay – an avid surfer in his own right – for the bulk of “90210’s” 10-season run. “John” will be his second turn on an HBO series; he had a recurring part on “Oz” in 2001-02.

His other credits include Showtime’s “Jeremiah,” the feature-film version of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and guest spots on “Will & Grace” and “What I Like About You.”

‘Earl’ girl Pressly confirms pregnancy

Jaime Pressly will only announce she’s pregnant when she’s good and ready, and that happened Wednesday night on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

The “My Name Is Earl” actress confirmed that she and her fiance Eric “Cubiche” Calvo are expecting their first child.

“I’m four months pregnant,” she said. “I’m making it official tonight for the first time. I’m healthy. The baby’s healthy. We’re good.”

The “official” part is important because her “Earl” co-star Jason Lee had let slip in October, amidst her recent engagment news, that “She’s gonna be a good wife, she’s gonna be a great mom.” At the time, Pressly denied the story.

“I was only a month pregnant so I lied, which is a woman’s right,” she explained to Leno.

Pressly hasn’t confirmed her baby’s gender yet, but believes it to be a boy, judging from an ultrasound her doctor showed her.

If the baby turns out to be male, the couple intends to name him Dezi James. The first part comes from Desi Arnaz – in honor of Calvo’s impression of the famous Cuban performer in “I Love Lucy,” calling out, “Lucy,” when he comes home. The middle name is in honor of her father James.

Pressly and her LA-based DJ fiancee had been friends for nearly a decade before they started dating last year. Despite their long acquaintance, they’re not in any hurry to set a wedding date.

Pressly, 29, recently an Emmy nomination for her supporting role on “Earl,” which won Emmys for directing, writing, editing and casting. On the NBC sitcom, she plays Joy, the rather uncouth ex-wife to the title character (Jason Lee) and current wife of Darnell Turner (Eddie Steeples), a zealous Crab Shack employee.

On the big screen, she’ll next star in video game-inspired “D.O.A.,” which will be released on Dec. 8.
