LEWISTON – A surprise party was held on July 30 for Robert S. and Diane Brown of Lewiston, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Party hostess was Lisa Brown, daughter, and the outdoor party was held under a tent in Lewiston.

A money tree was provided and the centerpiece was a floral replica of the original bridal bouquet. Michael Brown was the toastmaster.

Mr. Brown and the former Diane Belleville were married on Sept. 29, 1956, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston.

Their children are Michael R. Brown of St. Joseph, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Russell Brown of Avon, Ind., Carol Brown of Old Orchard Beach, Kathryn D. Brown of Van Nuys, Calif., Stephanie Brown of Lewiston, and Roger Brown of Greenbay, Wisc., who was unable to attend due to prior commitments. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Approximately 50 people were in attendance.

Mrs. Brown retired from Concord Group Insurance in 1998, after 20 years. She is currently secretary of the Rosary Sodality of St. Patrick’s Church.

Mr. Brown retired in 1978 from the U.S. Air Force as a senior (E-8) non-commissioned officer, after 26 years. He served a tour in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. He is currently serving on the church council of St. Patrick’s Parish and is a member of American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon.

Original wedding attendants present were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Grondin, who were the best man and maid of honor.
