Society speaker

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Historical Society heard a talk by Sayward Lamb at the October meeting. He discussed his book, “Deer Tails and Other Tales.”

Officers elected were Betty Jones, president; Ted Jones, vice president; and Elaine Emery, treasurer and secretary.

Members will meet Monday, Nov. 20, with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. and a short business meeting at 7 followed by a program by Lloyd Waterhouse, who will talk on the history and purpose of trapping.

The Christmas meeting will be held at the home of Elaine and Norman Emery at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18.

Church service

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Baptist Church will hold a Thanksgiving Eve service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the church.

Holiday meal

NEW VINEYARD – Mountain VIew Bible Church will host a Thanksgiving dinner from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, at the church. Anyone who doesn’t have any plans or place to go is most welcome.

Trustees meeting

HEBRON – The Hebron Historical Society will hold a trustees meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the town office to update ongoing projects and to plan programs. All trustees, members and interested parties are invited.

Lights available

OXFORD – Anderson-Staples Post 112, American Legion, Auxiliary is selling lights for the veterans’ Christmas tree. Those wishing may purchase lights by contacting Paula Bernard at 539-4505 or Stephanie Danico at 744-0023. The lights may be purchased in honor of or in memory of any veteran for $5 each. The tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, with the help of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause at the Oxford Legion Hall.

Holiday trip

BRIDGTON – The “Magic of Christmas” trip, sponsored by the Bridgton Community Center, is open to all ages. The trip to Merrill Auditorium in Portland will be held on Friday, Dec. 15. Cost for orchestra seats for Bridgton residents will be $50; terrace seats, $38; nonresidents, add $15 to price of each ticket. Grange meets

WEST PARIS – West Paris Grange 298 met at the hall on Nov. 2 for an inspection meeting by State Grange Deputy Kathy Lorrain, assisted by Ruby Meister, State Membership Committee. Draping the charter was done for Elsie Blackburn Haynes, a 64-year Grange member and officer.

A Veterans Day program of music, history and poetry was presented by Chaplain Bertha DeHaas.

West Paris Grange 298 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, p.m. at the hall, 4 Church St. Members will work on building up the grange membership and discuss the future of the grange in the new century. For more information, call 674-3046.

Library additions

WEST PARIS – The “Little Castle” Library has announced new DVDs and videos on a special shelf in the children’s section. They are: “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles,” “Sinbad – Legend of the Seven Seas,” “Spongebob Square Pants the movie.”

For junior high school and high school there are “Sisterhood of Traveling Pants,” “Wallace and Gromit” and “The Curse of the Were Rabbit.”

There are many classic children’s videos available, including “Cinderella,” “Free Whilly,” “Jungle Book,” “Lion King,” “Snow White,” “Peter Pan,” “Fantasia,” “101 Dalmations” and “Cheaper By the Dozen.”
