PARIS – Oxford Aviation hurriedly delivered an overdue rent check for $6,500 to the Oxford County administration office Thursday morning.
After a phone call by a reporter asking about six months of unpaid rent to the county, the company paid up the next day.
Oxford Aviation, which rents hangars and office space at the Oxford County Regional Airport in Oxford, owed the county $7,872, according to records at the county treasurer’s office.
“We are not in default in our lease; we have no notification of any issues specifically with the county,” Oxford Aviation President Jim Horowitz said last week.
“Every person in the state and government knows us as a company, knows our financials as a company. I don’t think it is appropriate to look into this as a story. It is not anyone’s business,” he said.
Over the years, according to county records, Oxford Aviation has consistently been a few months late on its rent checks. The company has been a tenant at the airport since 1989.
Horowitz and county commissioners have over the years argued about issues related to the county airport, especially regarding a runway extension. Horowitz wanted to see the runway lengthened to service larger jets, but commissioners said it was not feasible.
The airport is owned by the county, portions of which are rented out to Horowitz’s high-end aircraft refinishing business.
