MECHANIC FALLS – Smash-and-grab burglars broke into a Pleasant Street pharmacy Sunday night, for the second time in three months.
Police were called to the Mechanic Falls Pharmacy at 16 Pleasant St., between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Burglars had smashed the glass door to the store, setting off a burglar alarm.
People at the nearby Cumberland Farms store heard the alarm and called police, said police Chief Jeff Goss.
In August, burglars smashed the same glass door and escaped with more than $1,000 worth of drugs.
Goss said Tuesday that police were still waiting for an inventory from the pharmacist to determine what was taken in the more recent break-in. He believes only drugs were taken.
Goss said he believes more than one person was involved, but wouldn’t speculate on how many. He would not say whether police had any suspects in the break-in.
“We do have a couple of leads we are following up on, so there is a limit to what I can release at this time,” Goss said.
The store was also broken into in February 2005, Goss said.
It is owned by Chuck Primozich of Norway.
