Dear Sun Spots: I always read this column.

Could Sun Spots please find out, for my son, when the Lewiston High School Class of 1967 will hold its 40th reunion in 2007? He will need to know what date and month. He is from out of state and wants to plan his vacation around it. Thank you. – B.G., Lewiston.

Answer:
Sun Spots contacted Paul Labbe, a member of the committee, who notes the reunion is being held the same weekend as the Great Falls Balloon Festival (Aug. 17-19) on Saturday, Aug. 18. It will be held at Martindale Country Club.

Labbe notes that there will be more information forthcoming such as times of events and more. Sun Spots has requested that the committee consider updating column readers and alumni of any arrangements. Sun Spots would encourage those alumni to keep an eye on future columns for an update.

Another member, Ron Paradis, also contacted the column to advise that you and other alumni can contact the committee via e-mail at class67@verizon.net. Paradis and Labbe recalled your son and are looking forward to his visit.

Dear Sun Spots: I want to respond to the request for help at Androscoggin Home Health that appeared in Sun Spots recently. I have been volunteering for them for a couple of years now and find that they are a wonderful organization to work for. They have very good training, and the help is friendly and helpful. You can get a free flu shot and TB test there. The new facility at the hospice house is wonderful.

I have done a variety of jobs – making shawls for the hospice house, shopping for patients who are housebound, shopping for the hospice house and answering the phone and greeting people at the hospice house. I encourage people to sign up to help. You can make your own schedule, and Kathy and Lorraine are great staff. Thanks. – Frances C. Miller, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: Why does PBS not play any more of the Daniel O’Donnell show? So many people miss that wonderful music. Also, where could we find his latest CD of his wife and himself singing? Do they sell VHS tapes of him? Thank you. – Many Fans, No Town.

Answer:
Sun Spots contacted MPBN and spoke with Mary Ellen Davis, who notes that the only Daniel O’Donnell programs available to them are ones that contain pledge breaks. The station would be happy to air programs without them, but Davis notes that there are few programs that are not formatted for pledge drives. She says the station is one of the first in the country to move away from special pledge programming. MPBN’s primary concern is ensuring that regular, consistent programming is available for its audience and members, many of whom dislike having their weekly favorites like NOVA or Frontline preempted in favor of music specials during pledge drives.

You might consider checking out O’Donnell’s Web site at www.daniel-site.com. His new album, “Until The Next Time,” is listed on it and is noted as being the first album ever written by O’Donnell himself.

Regarding VHS tapes, there are several listed online at www.shoppbs.org. Other possible sources of Irish VHS and CD and DVDs include Dara Records and Rego Irish Records, who specialize in Irish music. You can reach Dara Records at 207 East 84th St., No. 202, New York, NY 10028, 1-800-714-3272, fax 1-212-628-7224 or via e-mail at sales@dararecords.com or info@dararecords.com. Rego can be reached at Rego Irish Records, P.O. Box 1515, Green Island, NY 12183, 1-800-458-REGO.

In the Lewiston/Auburn area you should consider contacting Bull Moose, 885 Lisbon St., Lewiston, 784-6463. If they don’t have what you want in stock, it’s possible they can special order it for you.

In the meantime, previous column readers have recommended fans of O’Donnell try locating his music at Wal-Mart or through Christian Book Distributors, P.O. Box 7000, Peabody, MA 01961-7000, 800-247-4784.
