LA QUINTA, Calif. -They don’t call Fred Couples “King of the Skins” for nothing.

Couples, a five-time Skins Game champion, got off to a fine start toward a sixth title on Saturday, when he won six holes (skins) worth a total of $175,000.

John Daly won one hole, the first, for $25,000.

Fred Funk, the defending champion with $925,000 a year ago, and Skins Game rookie Stephen Ames were shut out over the first nine holes of the two-day, 18-hole event.

Rose takes 2-stroke lead at Australian Masters

Justin Rose shot a 4-under-par 68 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead after three rounds of the Australian Masters at Huntingdale.

Rose, who trailed second-round leader Aaron Pike by two strokes going into the third round, is at 13-under par.

India’s Singh ties for lead at Casio World

KOCHI, Japan – India’s Jeev Milkha Singh shot a 3-under-par 69 Saturday to take a share of the lead at the Casio World Open.

Singh birdied the final hole to tie overnight leader Tetsuya Haraguchi at 12-under 204.

Haraguchi finished with a 70 that included three birdies and a bogey on the par-72 Kochi Kuroshio Country Club.

Singh is playing in his sixth full year without a tournament victory on the Japanese tour.

On Friday, 17-year-old Michelle Wie missed the cut after an 80 left her at 17-over 161.
