WOODSTOCK – Selectmen last week scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday when the board will meet with the planning board and fire department to discuss updating the town’s fire protection ordinance.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield said the ordinance was written and accepted by the town’s voters in the mid-1940s and is in need of updating.
“A major item we need to discuss in regard to the ordinance is if there is a need to require developers to furnish a water supply at any new development by whatever means should be available at the site. It could be a fire pond or other water source that would guarantee the availability of water in case of a fire emergency in the development,” Maxfield said.
He added that the requirement would be subject to the approval of the fire chief and would have to be considered by the planning board when issuing permits for subdivisions.
The meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the meeting room at the town office in Bryant Pond.
Maxfield also told selectmen that he has received this year’s state valuation for the town and it comes in at $141 million, which is a 20 percent increase over the $117 million assessed in 2005.
“It is based on last year’s property sales, which saw some very high prices, especially properties that sold around the shores of Lake Christopher,” Maxfield said.
In other business, the board decided to look into developing a junk ordinance to present to voters at the annual town meeting in March. They also plan to discuss the possibility of opening Concord Pond Road to winter maintenance at their next meeting on Dec. 5.
