MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Tournament MVP Eileen Flaherty dropped in 22 points to pace Bowdoin to an 86-46 victory over Montclair State in the championship game of the Red Hawk-Pioneer Classic.
The Polar Bears, currently ranked second in the nation in Division III, rolled to a 19-2 lead at the start of the game and held on to improve to 4-0.
Marisa Berne also earned All-Tournament honors, finishing the game with 13 points, and Jill Anelauskas had 14 points. Bowdoin shot a red-hot 22-of-25 from the free throw line in the game.
William Paterson 79, Colby 66
MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Lucila Custis had 22 points and five assists to power William Paterson to a 79-66 victory over Colby College at the Red Hawk-Pioneer Classic on Sunday.
Michelle Pellichero added 13 points and seven assists for WPU (3-2).
Katie McCabe netted 14 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Mules (0-4), while Lauren Duval contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.
St. Joes 67, UMaine-Machias 35
STANDISH – Aly Ludwig tied a career-best with 13 points and added eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals as St. Joseph’s cruised to a 67-35 victory over UMaine-Machias in women’s basketball. Freshman Carolyn Freeman reached double figures in scoring for the fourth-straight game with 10 points for the Monks (2-2).
Sara Wells lead the Clippers (2-8) with 18 points and eight rebounds, and Alyssa Larochelle had eight points to go with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Bowdoin 84, Thomas 63
WATERVILLE – Jordan Fleigel knocked down 18 points as Bowdoin handed Thomas an 84-63 loss in the Terriers’ season opener at home.
Kevin Bradley netted 15 points, including three 3-point shots to help pace the Polar Bears.
Aecio Madeira had 18 points and six rebounds, while Darrel Alexander added 15 points and five assist for Thomas (0-1).

Babson 4, Southern Maine 3
BABSON PARK, Mass. – J.T. Balben potted the game-winning goal with 4:17 remaining in the game as Babson edged the University of Southern Maine 4-3 in the consolation game of the Babson Invitational Tournament.
Freshman netminder Ryan Moses made eight of his 16 saves in the final period of play to stymy Southern Maine after the Beavers (1-3-0) erased an early 2-0 deficit.
Eric Morgani and Mike Stevens each had a goal and an assist for the Huskies (1-3-0). Chris Travis also scored for Southern Maine, and Kyle Smith notched a pair of assists. David Beckles stopped 27 shots in the net for the Huskies.
U.S. U-18 6, Bowdoin 4
BRUNSWICK – James vanRiemsdyk put together a four-point effort as the U.S. Under-18 National Team skated past Bowdoin 6-4 on Sunday.
Jimmy Hayes scored the game-winner in the third period on the power play, and Colin Wilson added an empty-netter for the Under-18 squad. vanRiemsdyk notched a hat-trick and added an assist in the game.
Bryan Ciborowski scored a pair of goals for the Polar Bears, putting Bowdoin ahead in the game each time, but the Under-18 team pulled even each time. Nick Smith stopped 21 shots and Chris Rossi turned aside 14 more in net for the Polar Bears.
