Christmas bazaar

LIVERMORE FALLS – Several Methodist churches are joining together for a Christmas bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church. The fair will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and there will be crafts, attic treasures, white elephant items and a food table. There will also be a fish chowder and beef vegetable soup luncheon served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The meal will include soup, finger rolls, gingerbread and a drink for $4.

Ramp dedication

PHILLIPS – The new handicap-accessible ramp at the Phillips Congregational Church will be dedicated during the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Dec. 3. The children of Evangeline Toothaker, who was a longtime member of the church, donated the ramp in her memory. Pastor Sue Kaplan will conduct the ceremony and all are welcome.

Dinner, book fair

NEW SHARON – The Parent Teacher Organization at Cape Cod Hill School will hold a spaghetti dinner and book fair on Friday, Dec. 1, at the school.

The dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the book fair will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dinner cost is $5 a person or $20 a family. The events will help fund field trips, playground equipment and enrichment activities.

Video at UMF

FARMINGTON – A video that assesses dwindling oil reserves, “The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terrorism,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in Thomas Auditorium, University of Maine at Farmington.

Western Mountains Peace Action Workshop will present the film as part of its ongoing educational program. Discussion will follow the screening. With footage shot in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, the film documents the violence engulfing Iraq and Afghanistan.

Thomas Auditorium is located on the UMF campus in Ricker Hall on High Street near Mantor Library. The public is welcome, and donations to benefit the film series will be accepted. For information, call 652-2377 and leave a message.

Food pantry

PHILLIPS – The Phillips Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 5 and 9. It is located in the basement of the Phillips Methodist Church. The pantry will be closed on the other Tuesdays in December.

The pantry has a selection of food and serves residents of Avon, Madrid and Phillips. Anyone who is not signed up should bring proof of residence, such as a recent electric bill.

Volunteers are appreciated and anyone who would like to volunteer is asked to phone Madeline at 639-3366.
